Never leave work till this late again...

Meh, i've been busy hunting down songs to learn and play for stars so i almost forgot. And yes i like the lol cat pictures they melt the heart and are just so damn cu.. cool.

Moving swiftly on...

As i said in my first post we looked at the opening to Storm breaker a while back. We also took a look at the woman in black and the most recent, a film of our choice from our genre, which for this post will be 1408.
Storm breaker and 1408 both start in a similar way in that most of the titles are played over the top of the action and that they both go straight in to it. The woman in black however begins with the titles. By doing this the woman in black remains mysterious and with the creepy music and titles it makes it obvious to the viewer that they are watching a horror film. Storm breaker also works fairly successfully, with high octane action happening one minute, and a school boy talking the next. This not only starts the film with a bang but reflects the idea of a secret identity, a key feature in some spy films. 1408 initially gives off an air of mystery and freight but nothing as clear as the woman in black.

Out of the three, storm breaker has the most action packed and interesting opening. However this may be due to the target audience being children/ young teens who have a short attention span. The woman in black and 1408 are aimed at late teen upwards and there for can afford to be more intricate with the story telling as adults generally have a longer attention span.

Overall they all work very well as openings, even if the woman in black did seem to get a bit dull... I know feel however that i have a better understanding of film openings and hope to use some techniques in my film.
